Hej i värmen!
Vilken underbar tid vi har framför oss. Även så i engelska tycker jag.
Det återstår inte många veckor men för 9:ans del väntar två avslutande uppgifter: en skriftlig och en muntlig. Detta för att eleverna ska få en chans att övertyga mig och vilket betyg de verkligen förtjänar. Den skriftliga uppgiften heter "Chaos in Swedish schools" och är en artikel ur Dagens nyheter. Elevernas uppgift är att skriva ett svar i brevform på denna artikel. Håller de med om det som sägs eller har de en annan uppfattning? Uppgiften testar med andra ord deras argumentativa förmåga men även elevernas förmåga att strukturera en text så att budskapet blir tydligt. Till sin hjälp har det fått en lista med sk. connecting/linking words.
Den andra uppgiften, som är muntlig, övar också den argumentativa förmågan. Eleverna ska mötas två och två i en debatt. Jag delar ut ett antal ämnen, delar in eleverna i par och sedan får de tid att samla på sig argument. Publiken får sedan rösta på den person som de fann mest övertygande. Jag hoppas att eleverna kommer att ta denna uppgift på allvar för då kan det bli riktigt intressanta diskussioner.
För 7-8:ans del är det USA som gäller. Vi har inlett detta arbetsområde med låten "Born in the USA" av Bruce Springsteen. Eleverna har lyssnat och svarat på frågor till texten. Nästa steg blir ett USA-quiz där eleverna ska försöka känna igen ett antal kända platser i USA. Därefter ska vi jobba i boken, bla lära oss lite fakta om USA, läsa om slaveriet och indianerna. Arbetsområdet kommer att avslutas med ett skriftligt prov.

Last questions on "Lord of the flies" w. 16 p. 141-180
Here comes the last questions on Lord of the flies. After the Easter break we will watch the movie.
1) Jack and his tribe are quite cruel as hunters. On page 153 it says: "the pig´s efforts to avoid the spear was so funny that the boys cried out with laughter". Are you surprised at this or is it something that we humans have deep inside or develop in a certain situation?
2) Explain the title of the book "Lord of the flies". Page 155 might give you some help.
3) What changes have you noticed among the kids on the island? Who have changed and who are still the same?

Now you have all started reading the book and I hope you enjoy it so far. Here comes a couple of things I want you to think about:
1) Make a short description of Piggy. What does he look like? What kind of person is he?
2) How is Piggy treated by the others and why is it so? Do you think that Ralph is a good friend? Does he have a responsibility against Piggy since they were friends first?
3) What rules do they develop and what are the rules good for? And by the way, who actually decides the rules?

Lord of the flies by William Golding
On Monday week 14 the pupils in year 9 will start reading the novel Lord of the flies by William Golding. The bookproject will go on for three weeks and we will end the project by watching the film. During the project, the pupils are supposed to answer a couple of questions concerning different aspects of the book. I will choose the questions that will be answered on this blog but the students will bring suggestions on things to discuss in class. I´m really looking forward to this project and hope that the students will enjoy it too.
